Coach Smith

Coach Smith

Over Coach Smith's career with Barnegat High School Cheerleading, the program has grown significantly. Starting with a freshman squad of only 16 cheerleaders in 2004, the program has grown to include a total of 4 teams: Varsity Sideline, JV Sideline, Varsity Competition and JV Competition. In 2005, Coach Smith was named the "Top Rookie Coach" by the National Cheerleader Association. In 2011, Coach Smith was the recipient of the New Jersey Cheer and Dance Coaches Association Coaches Recognition Award for Cheerleading. In 2016, the programs was selected for the NJCDCA Sportsmanship award. 

 

The program has been very successful in recent years including attending the NCA National Championship in Dallas, Texas in 2005 & 2006 and the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida 2009, 2010 and 2011. In addition, the teams have won numerous competitions including Ocean County Cheerleading Champions 2009, 2010 and 2011 - Large Varsity Division, Ocean County Grand Champions in 2011, 3rd Place in the New Jersey State Cheerleading Championships in 2009, and Group 2 State Champions in 2010, 2011 and 2014. The cheerleaders won the Medium Varsity Division State Championship in 2014.  The cheerleaders also won 3rd in the Nation at UCA's National High School Cheerleading Championship in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014. The team was ranked 10th in 2013. The team's performance was featured on ESPN 2 in 2010, 2011 and 2014.  The cheerleaders also appeared on News 12 NJ's Friday Night Football in 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2011, Good Morning America in 2010 and Pix Morning News in 2011 where they performed and interviewed Ashley Tisdal from the television show Hellcats. The cheerleaders also participate in philanthropic events including Relay for Life in 2010 & 2011 and raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness during the month of October.  Coach Smith is looking forward to another exciting season.
